Musanze: Sanitation needs to be our culture-Dr.Ouziel!

The thirtieth June, 2011 in Nkotsi sector, the ministry of health presented by the permanent secretary, Dr Ndagijimana Ousiel presided over the meeting on hand washing for sanitation and cleaning environment where around two thousand population of Bikara cell were gathered.
Dr. Ouziel who first visited some of the population of Barizo zone homes said that even if they have taken a great step, there is a need to strengthen home sanitation in this districts especially Nkotsi sector, where population suffers from of poor sanitation disease.
“A great step has been taken but we need to make sanitation our culture especially We of Nkotsi Sector.”, says Dr Ousiel.
He continues saying that the most victims of poor sanitation disease are Children and students where he mentioned that from the world statistics more than two millions expire every year of poor hygiene while in Rwanda every year eleven percent of fewer than Five years pass on for poor hygiene disease and 25% of student in primary schools suffer from intestinal parasites.
Toilets, beds, kitchens, clothes, and the place to put plated after the wash were put said to be the basic of home sanitation and the Rwanda health ministry P.S, said that not anly poor sanitation cause diseases but also it slowdown the development. “The country spends much money for medicines and vaccination activities which should be used in other developmental activities.” Says Dr. Ouziel. Prevent disease is better than getting cured continues.
Ntahompagaze Felicien, a motorcyclist and one we met at his home told us that they have been trained on hygiene matters. “We know the consequences of poor sanitation, we do our best for it but it is difficult for us to have a two or three meters toilets in such a stony land.” Says Felicien The population of this area said that they need advocacy in getting pure water, and modern toilets. For the paper used in toilets they said that they manage to get plant leaves to use.
The body, home, and Community place sanitation is one of Clean and Green environment Campaign done at the initiative of Rwanda health ministry in the month of sanitation and green Environment. The current disease suffered some of this place due to poor sanitation include: Cholera, children intestinal worms, Typhoid, and others. Dr Ouziel said that they will continue helping musanze population to get sanitation infrastructures and to visit the hygiene of community place like hotels, and restaurants wherever in the country.
